A BSU stewards primary role is to represent and defend the interests of his/her fellow students. Stewards will serve as a link and conduit of information between the BSU members and advisors. Stewards need to be knowledgeable of AAPS Student Rights and Responsibilities policies. A steward will need to be able to commit to after-school meetings and activities within reason. Stewards will be introduced to and expected to establish relationships with school official personnel, such as the Superintendent, Board of Education trustees, and members in the Superintendents cabinet. Stewards must be compassionate, brave, patient, respectful, optimistic, a problem solver, good communicator, organized and have a sense of humor.
Class Reps: A Class Rep will need to be able to commit to after-school meetings and activities within reason. Class Reps will be introduced to and expected to establish relationships with school official personnel, such as the Principals of Pioneer, the Superintendent, Board of Education trustees, and members in the Superintendents cabinet. Class Reps must be apart of Student Council. Class Reps must be compassionate, brave, patient, respectful, optimistic, a problem solver, good communicator, organized and have a sense of humor.
- Introduce and vote on concerns within BSU that represent the interests of their class/grade
- Initiate BSU incentives, modify or update old incentives and serve on committees within the BSU organization.
- Improve inter-organizational relations and develop a relationship between BSU and other campus organizations
- Present monthly report of information gathered at Student Council meetings
- Be an active participant in the inner workings of other general student groups
- Responsible for the involvement of the BSU in campus activities
- Keep abreast of all the Pioneer administrative policy changes and notify the membership of the said changes
Sergeant-At-Arms

- The sergeant at arms typically sets up the area before BSU meeting starts and checks that everything is in order before other board members arrive.
- Organize equipment and set up refreshments.
- If new members are attending their first meeting, the sergeant at arms greets them and briefs them on protocol and procedures; also welcomes any guests.
- Administers sign-in documentation, ensures that the meeting starts on time and checks that only authorized members are present.
- During meetings, the sergeant at arms keeps order. If other board members or meeting attendees are disruptive, the sergeant may warn them and, in extreme cases, eject them from the meeting.
- Collecting ballots, tallying votes and recording attendance.
- Oversees the cleanup process after meetings, parties and other BSU functions, either alone or with the help of other board members.
- Packs up equipment and materials, and restores the room or hall to its original state after BSU functions.
- Responsible for the safe storage of any equipment, supplies and property owned by BSU, inventorying them after each meeting and reordering supplies when needed.
TREASURER: A treasurer(s) will need to be able to commit to after-school meetings and activities within reason. Treasurer(s) will be introduced to and expected to establish relationships with school official personnel, such as the Principals of Pioneer, the Superintendent, Board of Education trustees, and members in the Superintendents cabinet. Treasurer(s) must be well organized, responsible, good communicator, and proficient in Google Spreadsheet.
- Have the exclusive right to conduct all BSU monetary transactions for all authorized BSU functions
- Compose a monthly report to budget proposal adjustments and past transactions
- Be present at all withdrawals of BSU moneys
- Have sole permission to authorize in case where signature is needed for the withdrawal of BSU funds and in all authorized BSU functions
- Include a written proposal of purpose for the funds and receipt for all moneys spent in every expenditure
- Keep an up-to-date record of BSU finances (Up-to-date is termed as a record given publicly at each general meeting and at each Executive Board meeting
- Be held responsible for all monetary transactions
SECRETARY GENERAL: A secretary-general will need to be able to commit to after-school meetings and activities within reason. Secretary-General will be introduced to and expected to establish relationships with school official personnel, such as the Principals of Pioneer, the Superintendent, Board of Education trustees, and members in the Superintendents cabinet. Secretary General must be well organized, responsible, good communicator, and familiar with Google Docs and other web programs.

- Be responsible for BSU spaces by maintaining and keeping all organization files and literature in proper order.
- Keep a journal of all monthly general assembly meeting
- Organize and distribute authorized bulletins to the membership
- Assist the President(s) in their duties.
- Be responsible for administering and reporting information to the Executive Board
- Send all Executive Board members copies of minutes taken during Executive Board meetings in order to establish and maintain continuity of discussion and planning from meeting to meeting
- Send all members, including Executive Board, copies of minutes from general membership meetings.
- Be responsible for maintaining and updating the BSU website (will receive training if needed)

- Have the right to form, activate, or dissolve any standing committee of the BSU
- Conduct regular weekly meetings to be accessible to the concerns of BSU members and the Pioneer community directly.
- Preside over all Executive Board and General meetings to verify that all board members continually progress en route to fulfilling their respective duties
- Oversee and aid in implementing activities of BSU.
- Oversees and authorizes monetary funds in absence of the treasurer.

About Pioneer Black Student Union
The purpose of the Black Student Union (BSU) at Pioneer High School is to create more diverse activities for the student body, raise awareness at the school and promote a more positive image of Black/African-American students. In addition, the BSU strives to build on our rich history and promote individuals as leaders in the PHS community by having the membership reach for and achieve academic excellence. We recognize the need for positive role models in an age when it is most needed. The BSU will do everything possible to provide this for the students at Pioneer High School. |
